From Engineering to Spiritual Embodiment: The Unexpected Path That Awakened My Purpose

I didn’t grow up expecting to become a spiritual teacher, a ritual artist, or someone who would one day create a mindfulness and embodiment app.

If you’d known me back then, you might not have expected it either.

I was a bright, determined, slightly awkward hippie kid from Nebraska—someone who felt deeply, thought big, and stuck out no matter how hard I tried to blend in.

And for a long time, all I wanted was to fit in.

So I chose a path that looked “right,” respectable, and practical.

I enrolled at the Colorado School of Mines to study engineering—because if I could prove I was smart enough, hardworking enough, worthy enough… maybe the world would approve of me.

Maybe then I would approve of me.

But the truth?

My soul never really fit into that world.

Engineering taught me a lot, but not the things I expected.

It taught me that trying to squeeze myself into someone else's mold was exhausting.

It taught me that perfectionism is a cage dressed up as ambition.

And it taught me that sometimes the life we’re “supposed to” build is not the life we’re meant for.

And in the cracks of all that trying, something ancient inside me began to whisper:

There is more.

You are more.

Come home to yourself.

The Doorway I Never Saw Coming

Golden doorway opening into light, representing spiritual awakening and stepping into a new path

Yoga entered my life quietly, like a lifeline tossed into deep water.

What began as a physical practice quickly became a profound inner journey—one that helped me see that the Real Me was not something I needed to earn or prove.

She was already there.

Waiting.

Worthy.

Whole.

I started teaching yoga in 2001, and nearly 25 years later, I’m still teaching.

Not because I set out to become a yoga teacher—but because I couldn’t not share what I was discovering.

Yoga cracked me open.

It showed me how to listen.

It showed me how to breathe.

It showed me how to love myself when I didn’t feel lovable.

Eventually, I left the engineering path entirely and went all-in on my true dharma.

I owned and operated three yoga studios over 16 years, guided thousands of students, and learned more about the human spirit than any textbook could have taught me.

And through it all, one truth kept rising:

We are not here to fit in.

We are here to awaken.

Finding Purpose in Spiritual Embodiment

The path of embodiment is not all incense and meditation cushions—it’s deeply human.

It’s messy.

It’s humbling.

It requires courage.

It asks us to face the parts of ourselves we judged or hid.

It asks us to look at the places we feel small or shut down.

It asks us to finally stop running from the truth we feel in our bones.

My own awakening wasn’t dramatic or glamorous.

It happened slowly—through heartbreak, mothering, running a business, losing myself, finding myself again, and listening—over and over—to the quiet, insistent wisdom within.

And that’s the doorway I want people to understand:

Spiritual awakening isn’t “out there” somewhere.

It begins in your real, imperfect, ordinary human life.

Even if you’re an engineer.

Even if you’re a perfectionist.

Even if you don’t feel “spiritual” at all.

Especially then.

Why I Created the SOULutions App

After 25 years of teaching, coaching, and helping thousands of people reconnect to their inner truth, one thing became clear:

People don’t need more information.

They need more access.

More guidance.

More tools that meet them exactly where they are.

More ways to reconnect with themselves—in small, practical, life-giving moments.

The SOULutions App was born from that desire.

Not as a “spiritual app,” but as a human app—a reminder that your soul has been waiting for you all along.

You don’t need to know Sanskrit.

You don’t need to have a meditation practice.

You don’t need to be “super spiritual.”

You simply need willingness.

A breath.

A moment.

A curiosity.

And that’s enough.

If You’re Standing at the Doorway…

If you’ve ever felt like you don’t quite fit…If you’ve ever been the high achiever, the perfectionist, the over-thinker…If you’ve ever felt something inside whisper, “There’s more for you,”

I want you to know this:

You’re not lost.

You’re awakening.

Your doorway is already here.

You just get to walk through it.
